New E6 Condition of Registration: Tackling Harassment and Sexual Misconduct for Higher Education Provision

As of 1 August 2025, the Office for Students (OfS) has introduced a new condition of registration for universities and colleges, referred to as E6.

Its focus is simple to make sure all students can learn in an environment free from harassment and sexual misconduct, and that staff have clear guidance to prevent, respond to, and address these issues effectively.

Why has the OfS introduced this?

The OfS created the E6 condition to:

·         Protect student safety and wellbeing – making sure all students feel safe and supported.

·         Promote a culture of respect – ensuring unacceptable behaviour is addressed quickly and effectively.

·         Hold institutions accountable – with clear, measurable standards we must meet.

It’s about creating an environment where every student feels respected, valued, and safe; and where staff have the tools and confidence to act.

What the E6 condition means for HoW College:

Under E6, we must have:

·         Clear policies and procedures to prevent and respond to harassment and sexual misconduct

·         Accessible reporting systems for students and staff.

·         Support services for anyone protected.

·         Training and awareness-raising so everyone understands their rights and responsibilities.

Why it matters

·         For students: It means stronger protections, clearer processes, and better support if you ever need it.

·         For staff: It provides clarity, training, and a framework to ensure our community is safe and respectful.

We all have a role to play in making our campus safe. The E6 condition gives us a clear framework to do that. If you experience or witness harassment or sexual misconduct, please reach out.
