Course overview

Are you looking to further your skills as a Painter or Decorator? Are you artistic, precise and organised? Could you see yourself thriving in this dynamic industry? If the answer is yes then this could be the course for you!

The Diploma in Painting & Decorating, Level 2, is an ideal progression from the Diploma in Painting & Decorating, Level 1 and offers you the training and experience to become a fully qualified tradesperson. From sanding down paintwork and stripping old wallpaper to installing ceiling mouldings you will learn how to carry out a range of advanced techniques and skills. Wallpapering, broken colour effects, textured finishes and using spraying guns are just a few examples of the skills you will develop. By the end of the course you will also be able to erect, dismantle and clean a range of equipment and working platforms. You will be skilled in identifying different hazards, and will understand how to measure and calculate different quantities and materials.

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

To apply for this course you will need a Diploma in Painting & Decorating, Level 1, and be genuinely interested in the construction industry.

Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?

The course is broken down into different units and you will complete online tests at the end of each unit. You will also complete a practical workbook which will be marked as you complete a task. There are 6 units in total and you will need to complete all of these in addition to a final practical task to achieve the full qualification.

What can I do next

If you wish to develop your skills even further, you may want to consider a Diploma in Painting and Decorating, Level 3 or an apprenticeship in construction. As you gain more experience, you may want to become self-employed or train towards a supervisory or managerial position. Future careers could include: Specialist decorator, (paint effects spraying etc), Finishing Forman, (ensuring all trades are using correct materials, achieving correct finish) and Site Supervisor (assisting the site manager in the smooth running of the site).
