Where Are They Now: Katie Evans!

02 May 2024

From struggling to see the future ahead to landing a permanent role in her dream job, Katie Evans, former Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) student, made the jump to join HoW College and watched the future open up before her eyes. But how did she get here?

Katie decided to join HoW College in 2014 as she was impressed with the College’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, which was important to her, due to her own learning disabilities and autism. Her journey started with Skills for Work, from which she then progressed on to the College’s Prospects course and then finally into a Supported Internship. During her time at college, Katie was able to do her work experience at a care home and was offered a job here off the back of this.

So, where is Katie now?

Katie left HoW College in 2017 after finishing her course and work experience. In that same week, Katie started her new role as a Care Assistant at the mental health learning disabilities and acute brain injury care home where she did her work experience. Fast forward seven years and Katie is still thriving in this role and learning new skills every single day.

Talking about her journey, Katie said:

“Coming to college I didn’t think I had much hope for the future, but college changed me and really helped me get my dream job!”

Katie’s journey is inspiring and demonstrates the importance of finding the right course for you that builds your confidence, allows you to believe in yourself, ensures you gain the correct skills and ultimately helps you land your dream job.
