Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) Level 3 Theatrical and Media Make-up students ‘brush’ up on their industry skills as they receive an online masterclass from professional make-up brand, Kryolan.

The students joined professional Make-up Artists (MUAs) from Kryolan in an online workshop on how to create fairy and pixie looks. After the webinar, Kryolan then asked students to enter a competition where they had to recreate a look based on what they had learnt from the session.

Kryolan is a professional make-up brand loved and used by make-up artists worldwide. The brand produces high-end make-up, including award-winning ranges, as well as make-up for stage, screen and special effects.

When giving the brief for the competition, Kryolan MUA Leanne Simmons said they were looking for students to re-create the look to the best of their ability, adding to it their own individuality, creativity and artistic flair.

Talking about the workshop, HoW College’s Theatrical & Media Make-Up Lecturer, Harriet Skelton, said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to not only get the chance to work with a professional make-up brand, but also put into practice the skills they learnt from the workshop.

Working with Kryolan provided a great experience for our students; the masterclass not only highlighted potential future career paths for our students, but it gave them the chance to meet and learn from industry professionals too.”

After all the entries were judged by the professional MUA team, it was announced that Summer Malpass-Weaver was the winner for her fantasy character look.

Giving feedback on the winner, Leanne said:

"Great Work for thinking outside the box and using prosthetic applications to elevate the look.  Congratulations on this makeup application!”

Congratulations to Summer for her winning entry and well done to all the students who sent in their creations; it was great to see so many add their own twist and style to their finished looks.

Despite the past 12 months, HoW College have continued to deliver invaluable opportunities to its students, to enhance their college-based learning and skills, through online webinars such as the one above.

Experiences such as this are a great way for our students to put theory into practice and adds to their CV too.
