HoW College Student “Nails” Her Own Future
04 February 2021
Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) Level 3 Beauty Therapy student, Han Hawkins, sets up her own future as she launches herself into self-employment within the beauty industry.
Since last summer, Han has been working hard alongside her College course, and in line with Covid-19 restrictions, as a Nail Technician and Nail Artist. Although she initially started this venture at home in her garage conversion, she has recently moved to a rented space at Droitwich beauty salon, Plush, where she hopes to continue practising her trade once the current lockdown and further local restrictions are lifted.
Commenting on her time at College, Han said:
“I chose to study at HoW College because I knew a lot of people who had qualified (in beauty therapy) and ended up having successful jobs in salons and spas.”
Speaking about the support at the College, Han added:
“I really enjoyed speaking to Nikki at HoW College; she always pushed me and encouraged me when I told her about my dreams of working for myself and having my own space to work from.
Tina has been my main beauty lecturer since I’ve been at HoW College and she has always encouraged us to work hard in order to achieve our dreams, which has really helped me.”
Han initially started at HoW College on a Level 2 Beauty Therapy course and has always been committed to her studies as well as becoming her own boss.
It was through becoming self-employed and working in her garage that she was able to “gel” with customers and build up her own client base which enabled her to rent a permanent space in the Droitwich salon.
HoW College’s Hair and Beauty Lecturer, Tina Ashmore said:
“During these difficult times Han has not only gained her Level 2 qualification but also studied for extra qualifications in acrylic and gel nails. She has now launched a new business offering nail treatments in Droitwich. I wish her every success for the future.”
Offering tips to fellow students who are looking at becoming their own boss, Han advised:
“As long as you have the confidence, talent, determination and have worked hard to save some money, you can do a fantastic job on your own and work your way up to being very successful in the beauty industry.”
We wish Han the best of luck with the rest of her studies here at HoW, and we are sure she will “nail” her new business venture.
