Congratulations to Heart of Worcestershire College’s (HoW College) Social Work Lecturer, Tabitha King, who has been nominated for the Amazing Social Worker Awards 2021.

The British Association of Social Workers (BASW), who put together these awards to celebrate the fantastic work of Social Workers, is the UK’s professional membership organisation for social work. They are the independent voice of social work who aim to help their members achieve the highest professional standards.

Talking about moving into education and being nominated for the awards, Tabitha said:

“Making the move from front line social work practice to education has been a significant move for me in this academic year. I am passionate about social work both from the perspective of direct practice and in educating the future generations.

Being nominated for Amazing Social Worker is not something that I was expecting, so I am honoured and humbled by this.”

Tabitha became Curriculum Resource and Quality (CRQ) Manager of the Social Work degree programme for HoW College in September 2020. This was a challenging time for many industries, but Tabitha has maintained a positive attitude to not only the understandably anxious social work students, but also colleagues and placement providers.

Tabitha was nominated for the award by colleague, Lisa Ward, who said:

“We all recognise the challenges faced by Social Workers across the country, indeed the world, during the pandemic. Whilst we are still in the midst of it, Tabitha’s passion, optimism and reassurance reminds us all that we will one day get through it and when we do, we will need the next generation of Social Workers, more than ever.”

Amongst the many tasks Tabitha has faced since September, she has continued to keep students in much needed placements and retained extremely high standards.

Commenting further about HoW College’s Social Work department, Tabitha added:

“The current teaching team within the social work degree program make leading the course a pleasure, offering new perspectives and sharing their own specialisms to make the course bespoke, current and relevant and I could not achieve the work that we do without them.

It is through the shared passion of social work from lecturers and students alike that enables me to continue in my own social work journey.”

Well done to Tabitha, and to all the amazing Social Workers, who have continued to navigate through the past 12 months.
