HoW College Inspires Sofia’s Passion For Fashion
12 May 2025

After studying A-Levels at Henley Castle Sixth Form, Sofia felt that A-Level study was too linear and restrictive and joined HoW College to study Foundation Art and Design.
Sofia has thrived since starting and found that HoW College and its offerings allowed her to be more independent and study a subject suited to her own interests and encouraged her to experience a range of art and design subjects in which she had not experimented with before.
The Foundation Art and Design course has encouraged Sofia to develop her practical skills through the specialist workshop based at Bromsgrove and Worcester campuses, working with lecturers and technical staff to develop skills on her creative analysis, and engage in external work encounters.
The Foundation course has also allowed Sofia to understand herself. To look and interpret the world in a way she did not before, both personally and from a creative perspective. Studying at HoW College made Sofia realise that creativity never truly switches off and how important taking in the world around you are for informing your art practice.
Sofia has found that the staff support has been tremendous that they are proactive and welcoming any questions they are asked and improved her confidence in life but also pointing her work forward in developing her specialist portfolio.
She shared on her experience at HoW College:
“Ultimately, Sofia said she felt said she had to leave the course, as she has built really strong friendships and has enjoyed every part of it.”
She hopes to progress onto Edinburgh University to study Fashion Design, where her skills learnt with HoW College will lead her onto the next part of her journey.
