HoW College has the CODE for success!

02 October 2018

Following a generous investment from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP), Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) is excited for the launch of its new Centre of Digital Engineering (CODE) on Wednesday 3rd October 2018.

HoW College’s St Andrew’s Building in Worcester has been transformed into a modern, state-of-the-art campus with a Virtual Reality Studio, equipped with both virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality headsets and a Data Centre, supported by the organisation’s partner Simply Hosting, giving students access to equipment used to build commercial networks.

With the launch of CODE, HoW College will work closely with local employers and partners to develop its curriculum to address skills shortages in the technology sector and to expand its provision of STEM subjects.

Talking about the launch, Principal and CEO, Stuart Laverick said:

“As the sector continues to evolve and new technologies become available, so must the facilities that students use to learn. This new facility will provide students with access to cutting edge technology that allows them to learn the skills they need as they prepare for a career in technology, and I would like to thank Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, business partners and the team who expertly delivered the high quality facility on-time and within budget.”

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership added:

“It is great to see development of Heart of Worcestershire College’s new Centre of Digital Engineering. Investment in state-of-the-art facilities like this will enable Worcestershire to be at the cutting edge of developing the digital technology skills required of our local workforce. ”

Commenting on the project, Abhinav Mathur, Commercial Manager at Simply Hosting said:

“Over the past few years Simply Hosting has been working in partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College. We recognise the benefit of state-of-the-art equipment and a positive learning environment on the budding talent for the technical industry and we wanted to support the project in any way we could.”

The CODE facilities will be open for viewing between 4:30pm and 7pm on Wednesday 3rd October 2018.
