Heart of Worcestershire College launches new electrical apprenticeship programme

08 July 2025

Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) has announced an all-new City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (Installation) or (Maintenance) qualification electrical apprenticeship, designed for those aspiring for a career in the electrical industry.

Starting in November 2025, the programme will run for 42 weeks at the Worcester campus. There are 15 exclusive places for aspiring electricians who meet the entry requirements of a minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

The Level 3 apprenticeship will deliver in-depth training in areas such as installation practices, fault diagnosis, inspection, testing, and BSS7671 compliance. Apprentices will have the guidance of industry experienced tutors, hands-on practical experience in custom-built workshops, and access to state of the art equipment and testing bays that allow simulation of both domestic and commercial installations.

Mo Horan, Vice Principal at HoW College, said, “This new electrical apprenticeship reflects our continued commitment to delivering industry-relevant, skills-focused training. We’ve worked closely with sector needs to develop a high-quality programme that meets national standards and also provides meaningful progression for individuals and value for employers.”

The programme entails assessment methods including:

End-Point Assessment including practical and theory tasks

Online tests, written papers, projects, or assignments

        Portfolio of evidence

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for those with relevant experience

Upon successful completion, apprentices will be eligible to apply for an ECS Gold Card and can progress to higher education, including electrical engineering degrees. Modular courses such as Inspection & Testing (2391) and BS7671 wiring regs courses are available to compliment your CPD, along with the L4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).

Applications for this apprenticeship must be submitted via the Apprenticeship Government Website. Employers interested in partnering with HoW College for apprenticeship placements are encouraged to email solutions@howcollege.ac.uk.
