From Sixth Form to Skilled Trades: Cris’ Path into Electrical Installation

26 March 2026

Cris Georgescu is currently studying a Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Electrical Installation, whilst working as a technician in the Electrical installation department.
Before Cris joined Heart of Worcestershire College he studied Business, Economics and Politics in sixth form. At 16 years old he dreamed of going to university to study Property Development however he realised after his time at sixth form that to enter the property development industry it requires a person to have money and capital to invest, after years of being a student.so, he pivoted into studying electrical installation to build his wealth by doing a trade so he could eventually go on to fulfil his ultimate dream.
When he first joined HoW by studying Level 2 Technical Certificate in Electrical Installation which he found to be more practical and hands-on compared to his workload at sixth form which he found heavy and intense. He enjoyed working with industry level tools and found role models in his lecturer, John who was very experienced and a good teacher, and technician Matt who made a massive impact on Cris studying the Level 2 qualification.
Cris is now studying Level 3 in Electrical Installation where he has gained a wealth of industry knowledge alongside skills that he can use in college and in his day-to-day life which has been amazing for him.
In his course he studies theory alongside how to manufacture metal work, wire systems and all the fundamentals of electrical installation. He is looking to complete optional courses to expand his knowledge.
A technician, Matt recommended  the technician role to Cris who then applied for the role.  He finds the role is very rewarding as he likes helping his younger students with practical work and having an impact on the college. After studying level 2 he wanted to improve student experience by helping them be organised in their Level 2 studies.
For his next step he wants to complete a NVQ and work towards an ECS gold card to be a qualifies electrician. In the future, he wants to get back into property developments with maintaining smaller properties eventually growing it into a bigger business.
Cris recommends doing an Electrical Installation course: "Electrical Installation is always needed. From working on electric cars in the future or installing systems in houses like the government aims to replace gas heating systems to electrical in the future. It’s one of the trades where there will always be a job."
