23 May 2025

In recognition of their long-standing contribution to teaching at HoW College, our former Hairdressing tutor, Sue Vernon, and Admissions Administrator Sue Greetham were invited to the Education and Skills Garden Party on Wednesday 14th May, an event that welcomed more than 7,000 guests.
Hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla alongside the Department of Education and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, the Education and Skills Garden Party celebrates the work of those involved in teaching and training young people around the country.
Sue Vernon and Sue Greetham were deeply moved as they stepped through the gates. The gardens were so stunning that it was easy to forget that guests were right in the centre of London, and they were accompanied by lovely music performed by the Royal Air Force Regiment Band and The British Army Band from Catterick which perfectly complemented the sunny afternoon, as guests dressed in their royal best mingled on the lawn over tea.
When the clock struck 4pm, the attendees were joined by King Charles and Queen Camilla as they made their way through the crowds, warmly engaging with honoured guests and enhancing everyone’s day with their presence.
Sue Vernon was deeply grateful for the remarkable conclusion to her career in education: "I felt very humbled to be selected to attend the King’s Garden party, it was a magical experience. A big thank you to Michelle Dowse for allowing us to represent Heart of Worcestershire College and to Sue Greetham and her lovely daughter for being with us to share the special day".
Echoing this statement, Sue Greetham describe the day: “It was a wonderful afternoon, truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, that I feel very fortunate to have been part of. A huge thank you for putting me forward for this amazing opportunity, a day I will never forget”.
Sue and Sue left with a wealth of cherished memories – ones that will last a lifetime.
