Congratulations to Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) student, Lauren Dowson, who has successfully completed her hairdressing apprenticeship at Redditch based salon, Legends Hair & Beauty.

Lauren enrolled onto the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing at HoW College after deciding she wanted to get to grips with the client-facing industry of working directly in a hair salon.

Reflecting on her apprenticeship, Lauren said:

“I really enjoyed learning all the key skills and adapting it to my own techniques. I loved college, if I could have come more I would of.

The apprenticeship taught me how to interact with a variety of clients, from all ages. It was great to learn the skills and techniques both in a commercial salon as well as at college.”

When asked how the College have supported her during her apprenticeship, Lauren said:

“I couldn’t have done the apprenticeship without them. The College believed in me more than I did in myself, which helped build my confidence especially when working with clients.

The tutors were so lovely, they were always on-hand to answer my questions and helped with any problems I had.”

On successful completion of her apprenticeship, Lauren continues to work as a Graduate Stylist at Legends Hair & Beauty, Redditch, where she is continuing with her level 3 apprenticeship.

For future students looking to take a similar path, Lauren advised:

“Believe in yourself, it’s going to be hard work at times but keep going. Take photos of all of your work, not only is it a great way to build a portfolio to show employers, it shows you how far you have come.  Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
