First Certificate in Sports, Level 2
Course Overview
A one year preparatory course aimed at 16-19 year old learners who wish to progress onto the L3 Extended Diploma in Sport.
Our First Certificate in Sport, Level 2, gives you the opportunity to your improve your sporting skills and knowledge. This hands-on course introduces you to a range of topics related to a wide range of careers in sports and leisure.
Alongside this students will continue to develop their English and Maths skills and will be expected to undertake a minimum of 30 hours’ work experience or voluntary work.
Learners will also have the opportunity to join the Redditch United or Worcester Football Academies. This Academies are open to those students who have a passion and talent for playing football. You will have the opportunity to train and play football while gaining your qualification. Discipline and self-motivation is essential. Entry into the Football Academy is also based on pre-season trial.
Our Sport learners will be using the state-of-the-art facilities for their lessons, enjoying a modern, bespoke learning environment. Furthermore, our students will have the opportunity to undertake work placements within Freedom Leisure, giving them the best chance to develop their skills and become ready for employment in the sports and leisure industry.
The equipment needed for this course is a pen, pad of paper, folders and sports kit.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs (A*-D) or (Grade 3 and above) including English and maths. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview. You will need to demonstrate a genuine interest in physical education and all types of sport, and be keen to learn new skills.
Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

A mixture of internal and external assessments, including exams, assignments and practical assessments.
