UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts

Course Overview

This two-year long programme is designed to provide learners with a varied exploration of the Performing Arts, working in the disciplines of drama, song and dance. Learners will spend the first year embedding and developing the multiple disciplines required for a successful career in the Performing Arts industry. They will explore practitioners such as Stanislavski and Berkoff, develop singing technique and repertoire and work across a wide range of dance styles and genres. The first year provides many opportunities for public and in house performance including two Musical Theatre Showcases and a piece of devised Site-Specific Theatre.

The second year requires learners to demonstrate a refinement of their skills with a series of more concentrated projects. As well as preparation for progression into industry or further training, learners will complete a research project based on their own interests and experience, in preparation for Higher Education. Learners will research, develop and perform and dramatic play and finish their year with a full musical theatre production. Throughout the year for both year groups, there will be many external speakers and industry professional as well as theatre trips and workshops.

Within the course you will have access to an industry standard and professional rehearsal and performance space, Spires Theatre. At the start of the course there is a studio fee which all students are expected to pay, and this will be discussed on application and interview. This will cover at least one curriculum linked trip within the academic year, and also the provision of necessary equipment.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above - including Maths and English.

How will I be assessed?

Level 3 Performing and Production Arts is comprised of a mix of formative and summative assessment. In year one, learners will complete seven formative units and one Final Major Project. In year assessment takes place via practical tasks, public performance and by completing a reflective journal. Practical Assessments include: Two Musical Theatre Showcases, a site specific piece and scripted play performance.

The second year is comprised of three formative units and one summative Final Major Project. Performance opportunities will include performance to an external audition panel, theatrical production and a full musical production.

What can I do next

After completing your Extended Diploma, you will be ready to enrol in a specialist Dance School, Drama School or Music Academy. You may also like to consider higher education or university.
