Course Overview

This qualification is ideal for aspiring project managers, department leads, and practising middle managers who are ready to take the next step in their career. It is designed to strengthen your leadership capability, build real‑world management experience, and prepare you for the responsibilities of senior leadership roles.
Learners attend one taught session per month, with each module assessed through a written assignment.

To support successful completion, learners should plan for around 10 hours of independent study per month, alongside optional support sessions and online tutorials. Most learners complete the full qualification within 6–8 months.

To ensure the programme is accessible and flexible for both learners and employers, teaching is delivered in the evening via Microsoft Teams. At the end of the course, learners are invited onto campus to deliver a final presentation to their peer group. This provides an opportunity to demonstrate communication and presentation skills, share learning, and celebrate achievement together.

Learners will need access to a computer or laptop to participate in online delivery sessions.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however applicants are required to complete an initial assessment prior to acceptance on to the course.

How will I be assessed?

Each module requires the completion of a written assignment. Learners will also be assessed on their presentation skills through direct observation and questioning.

What can I do next

On successful completion of the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management you can progress to the ILM Level 5 Diploma for Leaders and Managers. This diploma requires assessment of work based competency in a management role. Other progression opportunities include Level 7 CMI Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice and Level 7 CIPD Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management.
