CARE: Adult, Children and Young People, Level 1

Course overview

Are you interested in working within the Health and Social Care sector? If so, then our Level 1 Study Programme could provide you with the ideal route into either the Childcare or Health and Social Care industry. During your time on this course, you will study aspects of Childcare, Supporting Young People and Caring for Adults. This Course will provide you with opportunities to explore practices in a variety of sectors, enabling you to select your desired progression pathway in the future.

Work experience is an important aspect of the Course, where you can learn practical skills, gain an understanding of the industry and put theory learned in the classroom into practice.

All students will be fully supported inside and outside of the classroom, with the addition of Personal Tutors, Learning Support Assistants and Personal Learning Coaches. This will involve general classroom support, specialist exam arrangements and welfare support to help with confidence and emotional and social needs.

The study programme will include:
• BTEC Level 1 Introductory in Health and Social Care
• Maths and English (Functional Skills or GCSE)
• 35 hours sector specific work experience
• Tutorial Sessions, which will help with personal development and goal setting

Entry requirements

16-18 years of age and without achieving 4 GCSE at grade 4 or above

How will I be assessed?

Theoretical learning and practical activities will be at the heart of learning. Interactions with ‘real world’ experts will underpin the relevance of modules, where you will get the opportunity to visit different Health & Social Care settings. Enrichment activities and career advice will be provided to help you get into a training programme, employment or vocational course within a sector of interest. As a learner, you will benefit from the extensive facilities of the college and learning will be enhanced utilising the college’s Microsoft Showcase status.

What can I do next

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto apprenticeships within the Health & Social Care industry or Vocational Course. Typically, Learners progress onto either Level 2 Health & Social Care or Level 2 Children’s Play, Learning and Development. During the course you will have the opportunity to meet staff from subject areas to gain more information and support to assist you in making an informed choice about what you would like to do.
