Course Overview

The Level 3 VTCT Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is an advanced qualification designed to refine and extend the skills of learners aiming to work confidently as professional hairdressers. The course focuses on developing competence in complex techniques such as advanced cutting, creative colouring, colour correction, and specialist styling for a range of hair types and clients. Learners also gain a deeper understanding of consultation, product knowledge, health and safety, and the business aspects of working in the hairdressing industry. Training takes place in a realistic salon environment, enabling learners to build.

All essential Hair equipment and products needed for lessons and assessments will be provided within the training salon. However, learners are required to purchase their own uniform and personal hair kit to support their practical development. The uniform ensures a professional appearance and meets industry standards, while the individual kit allows learners to practise skills independently and maintain good hygiene throughout the course. Full details of the required items, costs, and suppliers will be provided during interviews / induction evenings.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Hairdressing
4 GCSE grade 3 and above (including Maths & English).

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for the Level 3 VTCT Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is completed through a combination of practical observations, written assessments, and externally marked exams. Learners are observed carrying out advanced services such as creative cutting, colouring, colour correction, and specialist styling in a realistic salon environment to demonstrate high-level technical skill, creativity, and professional standards. Knowledge and understanding are assessed through written tasks, assignments, and VTCT-set online exams covering consultation, hair science, health and safety, and industry practice.
