Course overview

This course is ideal for those never having achieved a GCSE English qualification, or those trying to improve on a previously awarded grade.

The course, which includes the study of spoken language and the study of a novel, will also provide you with the opportunity to produce your own pieces of creative writing and help you develop your skills in writing for specific purposes.

In order to achieve the GCSE English Language qualification, you will need to be thoroughly committed to attending all classes, all of which will be geared towards helping you prepare for controlled assignments, speaking and listening coursework and the examination.

Entry requirements

In order to be accepted onto this course you will be invited for an informal interview with a member of the English team and be asked to take away and complete a pre-course writing task.

You must also already have a GCSE English grade D and / or a Level 2 English or literacy qualification (such as Functional Skills).

How will I be assessed?

You will also need to complete three speaking and listening assessed tasks which will involve making a presentation, taking part in a role-play and a group discussion. In order to be ready for the examination you will study how to read and write about non-fiction texts and you will develop your skills in producing your own writing to explain or argue your own thoughts and opinions.

What can I do next
