Level 2 (Games Design and Creative Media)

Course overview

Creative digital media is a rapidly expanding sector in the UK, with an increasing demand for skilled practitioners. This course offers a broad range of skills, from digital art to using game engines.

Throughout this course you will gain skills in creating animation and developing graphic design skills while also working with creating gameplay mechanics within 2D computer game engines to create small games. You will also gain invaluable knowledge of the games and media industries, including building upon communication techniques and research skills.

As well as studying the Level 2 Media course, students also will complete:
• work experience hours (or complete virtual projects),
• attend Industry Skills Development classes,
• complete independent work at home,
• attend the tutorial classes
• attend maths or/and English classes if they have below a grade 4 at GCSE

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

Applicants require 4 GCSE’s grade 3 and above (A*-D) to include English and maths. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview and may involve a composition activity.

Entry decisions will be discretionary after interview and based upon achievement of the above entry requirements. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

We recommend that students have and bring to college an external storage drive and tutors can help with guidance on what is suitable.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through assignment building and may include short revision tests, reports, practical activities and projects.

You will have the chance to work with local developers and businesses to create products for them, thus building your portfolio in a real working environment.
