IT and Digital Media, Level 1

Course overview

The course is suitable for learners with an interest in IT and Digital Media and wish to progress to a level 2 vocational course in this field. The course explores many areas of technology and learners can expect to be engaged in immersive sessions where they can gain relevant and specific skillsets. All students will be fully supported inside and outside of the classroom with the addition of personal tutors, learning support assistants and personal learning coaches. This will involve in class support, specialist exam arrangements and welfare support to help with confidence and emotional and social needs.

The study programme will include:
• BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Information Technology
• Maths and English (Functional Skills or GCSE)
• 35 hours sector specific work experience
• Tutorial Sessions, which will help with personal development and goal setting

Entry requirements

16-18 years of age and without achieving 4 GCSE at grade 4 or above

How will I be assessed?

Theoretical learning and practical activities will be at the heart of learning. Interactions with ‘real world’ experts will underpin the relevance of modules, this will include speakers from sector specific employees and trips to local technology shows and exhibitions, to get first-hand experience of what is current in this ever-changing digital world. Enrichment activities and career advice will be provided to help you get into a training programme, employment or vocational course within a sector of interest. As a learner, you will benefit from the extensive facilities of the college and learning will be enhanced utilising the college’s Microsoft Showcase status.

What can I do next

Successful completion of this course could allow you to progress onto Level 2 IT, Level 2 Digital Media, or an alternative educational course. Industry relevant apprenticeships are also a potential progression. During the course you will have the opportunity to meet staff from subject areas to gain more information and support to assist you in making an informed choice about what you would like to do.
