English Functional Skills for Adults, from Entry 1 to Level 2
Course Overview
Functional Skills English provides learners with the practical reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication skills needed for everyday life, work and further study. At Entry Levels 1–3, learners develop essential foundations—from recognising simple words and taking part in short conversations to reading straightforward texts and writing basic sentences. As learners progress to Level 1, they gain confidence using English independently, taking part in discussions, understanding a range of everyday texts and producing clear written communication for familiar purposes. By Level 2, learners can communicate effectively in more complex contexts, analyse detailed information, and produce well structured, accurate writing suitable for work and real life tasks. Across all levels, the qualification focuses on applying English in practical, real world situations to build confidence, fluency and functional competence.
