Course Overview

This 6-week DIY Bricklaying Course is designed for beginners who want to develop practical bricklaying skills for home improvement projects, personal development, or to explore a potential career in construction.

Delivered in a hands-on workshop environment, the course runs over six weekly sessions, allowing learners to build confidence and practical ability step-by-step. No previous experience is required.

The course focuses on developing safe working practices, accurate measurement skills, and the ability to construct simple brickwork structures to a good standard.

Adults only aged 19+.

Safe use of tools and equipment
Understanding PPE requirements
Manual handling awareness
Setting up a safe working area
Tools, Materials & Mortar
Identifying bricks, blocks and mortar types
Mixing mortar correctly
Introduction to bricklaying tools and their uses
Measuring & Setting Out
Using a 5 metre tape measure accurately
Setting up lines and levels
Understanding gauge and consistency
Laying Bricks to Line and Level
Spreading mortar correctly
Laying bricks with consistent joints
Checking plumb and level
Corners & Simple Bonds
Constructing a corner
Introduction to stretcher bond

How will I be assessed?

Practical Observation

Tutor observation of safe working practices and bricklaying technique throughout the course.

There are no formal exams.
