Course overview

Do you dream of a new or better career, but feel held back by your lack of a higher education? Are you thinking of applying for university but have been out of work for a while and need to brush up on your skills? Suitable for all adult learners/students and whatever your level of ability, our Access to Higher Education (Foundation) focuses on the skills required to achieve English and maths GCSEs and the academic study skills to progress onto our Access to Higher Education diplomas.

Our Access to Higher Education (Foundation) students have achieved excellent success rates. Among those who successfully go on to complete an Access to Higher Education course, over 90% achieve places at their first choice of university.

The duration of this course is 1 year part time.

The Access to Higher Education courses provided at HoW College are regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and validated by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. We will ask you to undertake some English and maths tests at interview to ensure you are ready to study at level 2.

GCSE English and maths classes are offered alongside this course to ensure you are ready for the full Access to Higher Education courses and any university requirements.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through coursework, projects, presentations and group work. The GCSEs are externally examined.
