This week Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) has opened the newly refurbished Fountains Salon at its Worcester campus. To mark the occasion, staff and students were joined HM Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Mrs Beatrice Grant, who officially opened the new facilities.
The state-of-the-art salon which features mirrors, styling chairs, wash basins, as well as separate treatment rooms for beauty therapy, will give students the opportunity to train surrounded by high-quality professional products and equipment. The space will allow students to develop their technical abilities and build confidence as they prepare for careers in the hair and beauty industry.
Fountains Salon is open to the public, offering a range of treatments at reduced prices. Under the guidance and support of experienced tutors, students have the opportunity to work directly with customers, putting their learning into practice while delivering professional-standard services. This public facing offering allows the local community to benefit from affordable treatments while supporting the next generation of hair and beauty professionals.
The refreshed salon will be open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm, with treatments available including haircuts and colouring; eye and nail treatments; waxing; facial treatments; massage; and tanning treatments.
Mrs Beatrice Grant, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, said: “ It was both an honour and a great pleasure to officially open this wonderful new hair and beauty salon at Heart of Worcestershire College. These outstanding state of the art facilities will enable students to develop their skills, build confidence and gain invaluable practical experience in an environment that closely mirrors the professional world they aspire to enter.
“Education and training are the foundations upon which young people build their futures, and facilities such as these provide a tremendous stepping stone into the work of work. They equip students not only with the technical expertise required by the industry but also with the confidence, professionalism and ambition to succeed.”
Michelle Dowse, CEO & Principal at HoW College, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our newly refurbished Fountains Salon. We hope that the new facilities will provide students with a professional, industry focused environment where they can develop their skills to industry standards. Having the salon open to the public with affordable treatments means we not only strengthen our links with the local community, but also enables our hair and beauty students to put their learning into practice.”
HoW College offers Hair & Beauty courses including Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing and Hair Professional Apprenticeship. The courses enable students to progressively develop their practical and transferable skills. Hairdressing students will learn styling, colouring, communication, teamwork and problem-solving; meanwhile beauty therapy courses combine hands-on training with industry relevant theory, preparing students for a variety of career opportunities, from working in salons and spas to potentially establishing their own beauty businesses.
To see the new salon first-hand, prospective students can tour the facilities at Worcester campus as part of HoW College’s upcoming Open Event on 18th November at 5pm-8pm, which also gives the opportunity to meet the expert tutors.
