Course overview
Do you see yourself as the next Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson? Do you enjoy making new recipes? Do you work well in a fast-paced environment? If you are working in the catering industry and wish to develop your skills and progress your career in the industry, then this is the place to start. The course aims to give a good introduction to the catering industry. You will learn many different food preparation and cooking methods and you will learn all aspects of hygiene and food safety. This course will give you a sound basis in order to achieve a Level 2 National Vocational Qualification Diploma in Hospitality Services.
This course will help you to develop good practical skills in food preparation and cookery. To be successful you will need to learn the theory to support these skills and you will be tested on your knowledge. You will also work in the catering kitchen preparing meals to serve to the general public.
Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.
Entry requirements
You will need a relevant level 1 qualification in hospitality or relevant industry experience. We will invite you to attend an interview where you will have the opportunity to show your passion for the industry and your enthusiasm for the course.
Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through your practical skills in the kitchen, food preparation and the theory to support your skills.
What can I do next
Successful completion of this course will allow you to continue onto a variety of hospitality and cookery courses. Alternatively you can progress onto a supervisory role within hospitality, working in hotels, pubs, restaurants and holiday parks.
