Course Overview
Turn your interest in mechanical engineering into the skills to solve real engineering challenges. Whether you’re building your career or preparing for further study, this Level 4 HNC will help you understand how engineering principles become practical solutions.
You’ll use advanced, industry-standard equipment and engineering software to investigate complex problems and develop, test and refine your ideas. Through practical activities, research and workplace scenarios, you’ll connect the science behind mechanical engineering with the decisions engineers make every day.
Alongside your technical knowledge, you’ll build confidence in analysing evidence, communicating ideas and working independently and as part of a team—skills you can take into the workplace and further study.
The course provides a strong foundation for roles involving technical responsibility and progression to further qualifications, such as an HND or an appropriate degree pathway.

Course Information
You’ll need a Level 3 qualification in an engineering-related discipline. If you’re a mature applicant with relevant industry experience, we may consider this as an alternative route onto the course.
You’ll demonstrate your knowledge and skills through written assignments, engineering projects and presentations, applying what you’ve learned to practical engineering challenges. There are no examinations on this course.
Build on your HNC by progressing to our HND in Mechanical Engineering, developing your technical knowledge and opening up further opportunities for study and career progression. You can also use your skills to pursue opportunities in mechanical engineering or take on greater technical responsibility in your current role.
