The Race is on for HoW College Cross-Country Finalist!

21 March 2022

Henry Gibbs, a Level 3 Sports Coaching, Development & Fitness student is representing Heart of Worcestershire (HoW) College at the Cross-Country Championships finals.

Henry has always had a keen interest in sport and during the first lockdown in March 2020 he started running. Initially Henry started running to stay fit and healthy but then he made the decision to join Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club (B&RAC). He has since been progressing quite well with his running and decided to take part in the Cross-Country Championships. Henry has made it to a couple of finals, including the England schools where he will be representing the College.

When speaking to Henry we asked him about his training, Henry replied:

Training is going well. On a Monday I do gym, working on my core strength. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday I train with my coach and senior team from B&RAC. On Wednesday I run independently, and Friday I rest.”

Henry also spoke about his current studies:

“Doing a sports and coaching course has really helped me to keep focused on my training. Everything I learn is connected to sport and keeping fit and healthy and it’s helping me to think about future jobs involving sport too.”

Finally, we asked Henry what advice he would give to someone looking to start Cross-Country running, Henry stated:

“I would say if you are willing to train and race in the cold, wet and muddiest months of the year then go for it as it’s a great way to improve your fitness and endurance levels. You also get to meet some great people along the way.”

We wish Henry the best of luck at the Cross-Country Championship finals!
