Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) Work Experience and Job Coach, Laura Jones, will be wandering around the Isle of Wight for Charity this year.

In just under 5 months’ time on May 1st, Laura will take part in the Isle of Wight challenge with her partner, this entails walking the entire perimeter of the island which equates to 106km/66 miles! Laura will be doing the full distance continuously in order to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, which is expected to take between 20 and 36 hours to complete.

Speaking on why she decided to take on such a challenge, Laura shared with us:

“We are doing this challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Now; with one in seven women getting diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, this charity is key to the research and care provided.”

The charity offers support, information and conduct vital research to help prevent and treat breast cancer. As well as this, they run various fundraising events, volunteering opportunities and social events to help raise awareness and raise money to help continue their research.

Discussing how the event will occur amidst the current pandemic, Laura said:

“If the event is cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are able to transfer our entry to another event to ensure we can still raise money for our chosen charity!

We do understand times are hard financially for many people right now. Any donation, no matter how big or small is really appreciated with 100% of donations going directly to the charity!”

Laura has already managed to raise £290 of her £1200 target and with a few months still to go we cannot wait to see the final figure. HoW College would like to wish Laura and her partner the very best of luck with their Isle of Wight challenge and congratulate you both for taking on such a large task.
