Congratulations are in order for Heart of Worcestershire College’s (HoW College) Social Work Lecturer, Eileen Qubain, who won Silver at the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2018.

Eileen was named the winner of the ‘Making a Difference Silver-Award’ at the national event which took place on Friday 30th November in London. The award recognises the outstanding work of a social worker employed in settings outside of local authorities, who have made a positive difference through their outstanding work.

The judges commended Eileen for her enthusiasm, passion for the profession and commitment to the next generation of social workers.

Talking about her success, Eileen said:

“Receiving the Silver Award in the 'Making a Difference' category was very special to me.

It is especially wonderful to have social work education acknowledged and appreciated in this way, and this recognition goes to my wonderful colleagues back in Redditch past and present, and all those who have shaped our profession and learning for our amazing students.

I can't express the joy and pride we experience when we see the growth and learning of our social work students when we go out on placement meetings and see former students taking the profession forward.”

Eileen was presented with her award by care leaver and BBC news reporter, Ashley John-Baptiste in front of an audience of over 450 social workers and representatives of the profession.

Commenting further about HoW College’s Social Work department, Eileen added:

“HoW College has a strong history and an excellent reputation for its social work course and this is something we can all be very proud of. I have been so fortunate to have worked with truly inspiring people and I hope we can all go on together to 'make a difference.”
