Student design for Worcester city centre fingerposts

Heart of Worcestershire College’s (HoW College) Leve 1 Art students have opened their creative minds to help design a new fingerpost for Worcester city centre!

Worcester Business Improvement District (Worcester BID) recently launched a project to redesign some of the fingerposts that are placed around Worcester city centre. They invited local churches, schools, colleges, clubs, community projects and charities to get involved and be in with a chance to be considered as the chosen design for a specific zone.

The brief stated that the design needed to reflect the College and its values and could involve students, teachers and parents' associations and could also be run as an educational project.

The students were given a blank template and from that they had to come up with different ways to design the fingerpost whilst using the college's colour and design theme. A design has been chosen and submitted to Worcester BID!

We asked some of the art students how they found the project, and this is what they said.

Tom Ludlow, Level 1 Art student, said:

“I have really enjoyed designing the patterns for this project as I enjoy being creative. I would love to do more projects like this in the future as I found them fun, and they allowed me to start feeling more creative! I would encourage others to take part in projects like this as I feel it could really inspire people into doing more creative and artistic things.”

When asked about working on this project, Level 1 Art student Wren Woodward said:

“The purpose of this project was to find/make a new design for the fingerposts around Worcester so that they are more eye catching and people can see them clearer. I really enjoyed getting to be creative and letting the artist inside of me draw and colour a new design. I would be interested in doing another project like this in the future as I feel I can be more creative and let that be shown to others and hopefully inspire them to be equally or more creative!”

As part of Worcester BIDs initiative to make it easier for people to get around and be aware of the businesses in the city, the fingerpost project and electric boxes will be bought back to life, creating art trails for residents and visitors alike from September onwards.
