BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science
Course overview
Do you love experimenting? Are you practical, and passionate about Science? During this course you will explore a range of topics within science, technology, and maths. You will translate the theory behind the science into 'real life' experience. Covering an expansive subject area you will improve your knowledge of the core elements of science while also having the opportunity to develop practical technical skills and scientific design and explore specialist areas such as Forensic Evidence, Collection & Analysis and Genetics & Genetic Engineering.
Entry requirements
To join this course you must have either:
- 5 GCSEs Grade 4 and above including maths and English language and Double award science or individual Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?
Four units will be assessed be external exams, 2 in the first year and 2 in the second year of the programme. There are 9 internally assess units completed over the 2 years of the programme where you will be continually assessed through your written assignments, individual or group presentations, science practical technical skills and independent projects.
What can I do next
Upon successful completion of your Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science you can then choose to progress to study subjects such as Biological science, Forensics, Biomedical science, Microbiology, Biochemistry and other science related subjects at Higher education. Alternatively this course will allow you to progress into a career in laboratory work, scientific surveying or technician work or apprenticeships
