NCFE CACHE Technical Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education, Level 3

Course overview

This qualification will help you turn your dream job into reality. Our course offers you the practical skills and knowledge that you need for working within the childcare and education sectors.

You will study the NCFE CACHE Technical Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education in the first year and, if you successfully complete this, you will progress into the second year, where you will complete the Diploma.

As well as learning the theory in college, you will attend placement for two days per week, working with the age ranges 0-2, 2-4 and 5-8 in different childcare settings including nurseries, reception classes, pre-schools, special educational needs, and childminders.

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have 5 GCSEs grade 4/5 and above (A*-C), including English and maths. Alternatively, you will be considered if you have achieved a relevant Level 2 qualification. Entry is subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

You will also need to complete a DBS check, attend an interview and provide satisfactory references.

How will I be assessed?

This course requires students to pass an externally marked assessment in the first year to successfully progress on to year 2. They then need to successfully achieve a further externally marked assessment in year 2 to achieve the qualification, together with other forms of assessment.

You will be assessed on an on-going basis through various methods including written assignments, case studies and presentations. During your work placement, you will complete a range of tasks for your Practice Evidence Portfolio demonstrating that you are competent. You will also need to plan and carry out activities with children and observe their development.

You must complete over 750 work placement hours to complete the course.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a higher education course at HNC, HND or degree level.
