National Extended Diploma in Event Management & eSports, Level 3

Course overview

Esports is organised competitive gaming, which is human versus human, either as individuals or in teams. The esports industry is a fast-growing global industry. In February 2019, Newzoo published its 2019 Global Esports Market Report. This stated that, in 2018, the global esports market was valued at U.S. $655 million. This rose to nearly U.S. $865 million in 2019 and is projected to reach U.S. $1.79 billion in 2022.

Our National Extended Diploma in Event Management & Esports has been developed to meet this upcoming demand for skills in Esports. It includes a breadth of transferable skills that enable learners to experience different areas of Esports to aid their progression to employment, Esports offers a unique opportunity to study a sector that crosses over multiple subject areas such as marketing, enterprise and creative media.

The course is a blend of business and media and will include arranging an Esports competition, creating and branding a team and even producing videos and live streams for broadcast.
Students will also experience and be involved in the British Students Esports Championships which is organised by the British Esports Association. Throughout the year you will study and develop team morale, team management and team coaching skills whilst competing for a chance to play in front of a live audience at Nottingham in the Summer of 2024.

As well as studying the Level 3 Esports course, students also will complete:
• work experience hours (or complete virtual projects)
• attend Industry Skills Development classes
• complete independent work at home
• attend the tutorial classes

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a GCSE’s grade 4 and above (A*-D) in English and maths as well as a further 3 grade 4 ‘s and above in other GCSE subjects (preferably with a qualification in IT or Media). Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview and may involve a composition activity.

Entry decisions will be discretionary after interview and based upon achievement of the above entry requirements. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

- Live Streamed Events
- Customer Immersion Experience

How will I be assessed?

The qualification is 100% coursework based and will be graded through a series of internal assignments and projects, including written reports, digital portfolios, presentations, and interactive practical work. Each of the units are graded with one of the following grades of pass, merit, or distinction which is awarded from Pearson upon successfully completing your assignments at the standard expected for the grade.

What can I do next

Successful students may be interested in progressing onto HOW College’s HND in Business Management or to move onto an Esports and Event Management degree at university.
