Employability Skills for Construction, Level 1
Thinking about a career in construction but not sure where to start? Looking to learn a trade and not sure which direction to take? Are you looking for a course that is practical and hands-on? Then this is the course for you.
Our Employability Skills for Construction course will introduce you to a number of trades, from carpentry and joinery to brickwork. You will try your hand at a range of techniques and form a strong basis of skills and knowledge that can be used to help you go onto further education or employment in your chosen industry.
There are no formal entry requirements. You will need to have an interest in the construction industry and be prepared to undertake an entry assessment during your interview.
Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.
The modules you will cover throughout this course are as follows:
- Knowledge of the Construction Industry
- Painting and Decorating (Malvern campus only)
- Plastering (Redditch campus only)
How will I be assessed?
You will complete a number of practical tasks in the workshops that will be marked by your tutor. You will also complete some written theory work in the classroom and study centre.
What can I do next
If you want to build on your skills and experience you may wish to progress onto a Level 1 Diploma in your chosen area. There are many career paths to choose from in the construction industry, where skills in carpentry, brickwork, plastering or painting & decorating will prove useful.
