Diploma in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair, Level 3

Course overview

Are you thinking about a career as a Motorcycle Engineer? Do you know your Harley's from your Honda's? Do you dream of turning your passion for motorcycles into a career? If the answer is yes, then this is the course for you!

Building on the skills you learnt in your Level 1 or Level 2 Diploma our Level 3 course offers you the opportunity to take your technical knowledge to an advanced level. You will be introduced to a range of new technologies and learn how to diagnose and fix complex system faults, ready for a fantastic career in the industry. You will learn through a combination of class-based learning and hands-on practice in the workshop. You will study advanced engine, chassis, transmission, electrical and electronic technology. You will learn how to prepare parts
to professional standards, sand and media blast different components, and paint and finish parts. By the end of the course, you will be able to inspect different bike models, rectify their faults and assemble new components. You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, and other skills associated with working in a garage, including improving your functional skills.

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

Level 2 qualification in a related subject or prior experience of the automotive industry. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through practical activities and diagnostic tasks that will test your knowledge of motorcycle technology and maintenance procedure. You will also complete written and online tests to show that you understand the theory behind the course.

All students will also be required to participate in/complete 30 hours work experience throughout their course.

What can I do next

Your Diploma in Motorcycle Maintenance & Repair, Level 3 will qualify you for immediate employment as a Diagnostic Technician. This is an exciting role that involves diagnosing, inspecting and maintaining motorcycles on a daily basis.
