Making light work of a “heavy” competition

Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) student Chris Harker is set to show off his skills as he prepares to take part in the 2017 Worldskills Heavy Vehicle Maintenance regional heats.

Chris, who is currently undertaking a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance at Tooles Transport, will compete in the regional heat at Stephenson College in Leicestershire in July. Alongside other competitors, Chris will complete a number of tasks including diagnosing faults, taking measurements and compiling reports.

Speaking about his upcoming competition Chris said:

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in the regional competition later this year. My tutor Jeff Cross recommended the competition to me and after qualifying for the regional heats I’m excited to showcase the skills and knowledge I’ve gained from the College and my employer.”

Chris decided to undertake an advanced apprenticeship after a period of unemployment following his departure from the army. With a keen interest in vehicles Chris’s passion saw him undertake an apprenticeship with classic cars before moving on to an advanced level with Heavy Goods Vehicles.

The College wishes Chris every success with his upcoming competition and completion of his studies.
