HoW College Sport Students Raise The Bar

19 March 2019

4 male and female students stood smiling on a black and wooden weightlifting platform in a gym.

Heart of Worcestershire College’s (HoW College) Higher National Diploma (HND) Sports students, raised the bar last week with a strength testing session with British Powerlifting Champion, and former HoW College student, Kelly Phasey.

Kelly, who recently launched her own gym in Redditch, Kelly Phasey Fitness, got the students to test their one-rep maxes, and showed them the techniques needed for weight lifting.

Talking about the trip HND sport student, Nathan Ormsby, said:

“The session was really great! We got to use high quality equipment and Kelly gave us load of useful tips, which will be useful for our assignment work.

This trip has also highlighted the facilities that are available in the local area and the opportunities that are available to us, overall it was a really positive session for me and my classmates.”

Fellow Student, Amy Whiting, added:

“I found the session with Kelly really useful, my favourite part was testing my one-rep max and seeing how far I can push myself.”

During the trip, the students got to try out all the equipment, which resulted in most of them ringing the bell for achieving personal bests.

HoW College’s HND Sport Leader and Lecturer, Rhian Davies, further commented:

“This was a great experience for the students. It was also great to see Kelly, who is an ex-student of HoW college, and the achievements she has gone on to gain.”

HoW College prides itself on its ability to offer a number of opportunities to enhance their college based learning by including trips, visit and work experience.
