CILEX Level 6 Pro Higher Diploma Law & Practice

Course overview

A part-time course available to those wanting to train as a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer. This is the second stage of the training and provides coverage of a wide range of legal topics, including professional skills and practice units. Students can choose four topics and will also study two mandatory skills units.

Modules can be studied as a stand-alone certificates or can be used to count towards the CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.

Delivery will take place one half day per week, each Thursday. This will be via face to face lectures and workshops.

The staff in the law school come from a range of different backgrounds. Some have spent many years in the academic environment and have considerable experience in the delivery of various areas of law.
Other staff have come from practice backgrounds and have worked as commercial and private law solicitors and paralegals. This ensures that students have the benefit of both practice and academic experience.

Entry requirements

Completion of the CILEx L3 Diploma or a CILEx recognised exemption.

The College has a commitment to widening participation in Higher Education, and will therefore give careful consideration to prior experiential learning, non-traditional qualifications and qualifications obtained outside of the United Kingdom.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be by portfolio and examination.

On successful completion of this course and after a period of qualifying employment you can apply to become a Fellow of CILEx.

Course Modules

Client Care Skills:
Requires the preparation of a portfolio of tasks relevant to client care, from preparing attendance notes to further correspondence.
Legal Research Skills:
Requires the undertaking of legal research in order to facilitate the completion of a range of tasks.
An in depth exploration of the background to the conveyancing process in relation to freehold and leasehold residential transactions.
Civil Litigation:
An in depth exploration of the processes and rules governing civil litigation.
Family Law:
Considers the principles of family law, from divorce to issues relating to children.
Criminal Law:
A further consideration of the key principles of criminal law and a wide range of criminal offences.
Land Law:
A detailed exploration of the rights and interests which exist in land and how they are created.
Contract Law:
A further consideration of the rules relating to the creation of valid contracts and their binding nature.
Tort Law:
A detailed consideration of the law of tort and the various actionable claims.
Equity & Trusts:
A consideration of the development of equity, the concept of the trust and the implications of these.
