Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, Level 1

Course overview

Do you enjoy working with tools and building things? Are you a natural problem-solver? Are you considering a career as a carpenter of bench joiner? If so, this course can introduce you to site carpentry and joinery. The course balances theory with hands-on experience to help you develop a basic knowledge of carpentry and joinery. You will learn how to carry out first and second fixing procedures, how to erect structural carcassing and how to operate a variety of power tools.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a Grade 2 in GCSE English and Mathematics. You will need to have an interest in carpentry and be prepared to undertake an entry assessment during your interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?

You will complete practical tests and online multiple choice tests for each unit you complete, there are six units in total.

What can I do next

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress onto either a Diploma in Site Carpentry, Level 2, or a Diploma in Bench Joinery, Level 2.
