Our Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair offers you the opportunity to take your technical knowledge to an advanced level. You will be introduced to new technologies and learn how to diagnose and fix complex system faults. You will learn through a combination of class-based theoretical learning and hands-on practice in the workshop. You will study advanced engine, chassis, transmission, electrical and electronic technology. By the end of the course, you will be able to inspect different vehicles, rectify their faults and assemble new vehicle parts. You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, and other skills associated with working in a garage, including improving your functional skills.

Entry requirements

You will have a Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) Level 2 or prior experience of the automotive industry. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through practical activities, such as diagnostic tasks. You will also complete written and online tests to show that you understand the theory behind the course.

What can I do next

Your Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair will qualify you for immediate employment as a Diagnostic Technician. You could choose to complete an advanced apprenticeship in this area or begin working for a garage, dealership or on a self-employed basis. Alternatively, you may want to consider our Foundation Degree in Automotive Engineering.
